Graham W. Lamplough
Retired Bandmaster Graham W. Lamplough is a fourth generation Salvationist living in the county town of Stafford. His roots, however, are very much in the ”Potteries” as he was born and raised in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. Both parents were active Salvationist musicians it was at Tunstall Citadel that he learned to play the Euphonium aged 8. He regularly featured as a soloist and as a teenager attended the National School of Music for Boys at Tylney Hall, culminating in him being Principal Euphonium in the ”A” Band of 1972.
Having studied music and education at Keele University, he graduated in 1972 and began a career teaching Music. Graham married Viv and having transferred to Chesterton he was subsequently appointed Bandmaster, a position he held for over 20 years. During this time he was also Brass Instructor at the Salvation Army’s West Midlands Divisional Music School for some 13 years. He was also the Divisional Youth Bandmaster.
Graham and his wife Viv and their three children (Gavin, Anna and Lucy), transferred to Birmingham Citadel in 1997 and spent several years as Deputy Bandmaster. He retired from full-time teaching in 2007, having held the position of Head of Music in a large 11-18 comprehensive school in Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. Recently, he has been appointed as Head of Brass at Wrekin College, a Public School in Shropshire.
Graham was Retired to the rank of Bandmaster on Sunday 12th June 2011.
