Birmingham Citadel Band travelled to the South West on Saturday to present a concert in Clevedon, just 10 miles from Bristol. Clevedon Baptist Church was the venue for the programme of music hosted by Clevedon Salvation Army.
The capacity crowd was evidence that the hosts had worked very hard to promote the Concert with many neighbouring corps as well as Brass Band enthusiasts from the area in attendance.
A lovely summer’s evening was the back-drop for the festival and the audience enthusiastically greeted the band. The band not only felt the heat in the building but it soon appreciated the warmth of the appreciation of the audience as each piece was played. There was certainly something for everyone and it was apparent from the hearty applause that everyone enjoyed the music of the band.
Old favourites such as “Songs in the Morning” and “Spirit of Joy” were contrasted with more contemporary pieces such as “Psalm of Thanks”, “Fanfare and Flourishes” and “The Last Amen” and the audience enthusiastically applauded the soloists for the evening – Gavin Lamplough (cornet), Mark Sharman (trombone), David Taylor (euphonium) and Edward Dixon (tuba).
It was evident that the audience had appreciated the band and the band, in turn, really enjoyed the visit.
