Birmingham Citadel Band took part in the annual Remembrance parade and service in Birmingham City Centre. It is always a poignant moment as the city gathers to remember and it is a huge privilege for BCB to have such an important role to play.
The band marched down Broad Street at 10am as the Armed Forces lined the road, many saluting as the band passed. As has become tradition the band then arrived on Centenary Square in the shadow of Symphony Hall to present 30 minutes of music for the thousands of “brummies” that had gathered to remember and the grandstand of dignitaries and military officials.
The square was once again packed with ranks of soldiers and each year we are reminded not only of those who fought and sacrificed their own lives for ours in days gone by, but also of the wonderful work that the military continues to do and the daily sacrifice they make.
The band featured marches such as Under Two Flags, Rosehill and The Wellingtonian as well as meditative pieces such as I Vow to Thee My Country, Lloyd and Amazing Grace.
The band also alternated with the military band to provide music for the laying of the wreaths before playing The Red Shield as the standards were marched from the square.
BCB used the march Montreal Citadel for the parade as the they joined the ranks of the military and marched through the lined streets.
We, as a band, are humbled and privileged to play some part in remembering those who gave their tomorrows for our todays.
