Gavin Lamplough was appointed Bandmaster in May 2011 having previously been Birmingham Citadel Band’s Principal Cornet.

Gavin came to the Citadel in 1997.  On leaving the Royal Northern College of Music in 2000, Gavin returned to the Midlands to work as a freelance trumpet player working with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and in theatres around the UK.  He is proud to be a member of the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army with whom he plays Solo Cornet and has featured as a soloist on many occasions. He has also played with a number of the Salvation Army’s other premiere Brass Bands including the Household Troops Bands on Soprano Cornet.  He is a founder member of the Salvation Army brass ensemble Vision Brass and feels privileged to perform for the Salvation Army around the UK whether as a soloist or as a member of the ISB or BCB.

He is privileged to serve on the staff of the Salvation Army’s Territorial (National) Music School where he conducts one of the brass bands.  Previous responsibilities within the Salvation Army include the Salvation Army’s West Midlands Divisional Youth Bandmaster and conducting the Brass Band at the Yorkshire and Northern Divisional Summer Schools having previously done the same job at the West Midlands Divisional School.  He also conducts a number of non-Salvation Army ensembles.  He succeeded his father, Graham, as Bandmaster of Birmingham Citadel Band when Graham retired as BM after the 2011 Canadian Tour.
